Community Health Advocacy on HIV/AIDS and Malaria in Jonam County
Description: The international work camp is designed to scale up the awareness of “BETTER HEALTH FOR ALL” through “promoting responsible altitudes for HIV/AIDS and Malaria and Prevention and Care” by Sensitization, counseling, advocacy and Community/Public Videos, Films Objectives: • To equip 15 local and international youth with the experience and skills in Counseling, Sensitization and advocacy on basic human rights for health. • To promote Community Health through Educational film shows, Videos on HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases in conjunction with the local health authorizes • To mobilize, encourage and participate in Public Voluntarily HIV/AIDS test at Pakwach Health Centre IV. • To distribute donated mosquito nets to the UP Community registered vulnerable and disadvantaged people.
Type of Work: • Schools and Communities visits for better Health for all awareness sessions • Counseling, Sensitization and advocacy on basic human rights at the voluntarily HIV/AIDS tests grounds at Pakwach Centre IV. • Community outreach shows of Cinema/Video/Films in conjunction with the local Health Authorities • Cleaning exercises of some identified areas within reach of the work camp in Pakwach Town Council
Accommodation: • Accommodation will be in simple room • Participants are required to carry own sleeping bags • The campsite has simple bathrooms and pit latrine • a simple cooking shelter for kitchen. • Participants are requested to bring mosquito nets. Working gloves, cloths shoes and children playing materials if possible. • If any games, information/pictures from home country you can bring them
Requirements: • Open minded, ready to interact with other people of different cultural background
• Willing to share his/her experiences
• Flexible to live/stay in simple life conditions
• Flexible to the taste of local and basic foods
• Ready to work on the projects
• No experience needed
Approximate Location: UPA-Pakwach Branch is located 420km (6-7 hours) drive from Kampala It’s on the banks of the River Nile just 1km on Kampala - Arua Road
Notes: 250 € for international participants (this includes pick-up from the airport, food and accommodation during the stay in the camp and the on-arrival orientation). It also contributes to the running of the workcamp activities and UPA administration. Note: UPA doesn’t offer airport drop off after the workcamp but can help in identifying the service provider and the volunteer meets the costs ranging between 28-30 Euros. N.B. For smooth running of the workcamp, volunteers should arrive 1-2 days prior to the start of the workcamp.
